How WFH Is Changing Cybersecurity and Shifting Responsibility

The COVID-19 pandemic has radically changed the meaning of “business as usual,” particularly when it comes to working from home. Yet, remote cybersecurity is something many companies continue to struggle with, even after a year of living in this new normal.

A survey of 3,000 tech execs and IT professionals found that 61% of companies have struggled with proper security measures to support their remote workforce, leaving them exposed to increased, and unnecessary risk. And—gasphalf of respondents actually said they relaxed their security policies. “Danger, Will Robinson!”

When it comes to cybersecurity, most companies probably have some sort of required cybersecurity training—or, at the very least, a list of security dos and don’ts. But truly effective cybersecurity has to do more with a company’s employees than a company’s policies. Now, more than ever, it requires a company culture shift that acknowledges work-life boundaries, equips employees with easy-to-use tools, and shifts personal responsibility for security to everyone in the organization (and not just the IT department). WFH is exposing the harsh reality that when it comes to cybersecurity, organizations are only as strong as their least secure employee (frightening!). Read more HERE.
