Inteleca Achieves R2v3 Certification, Reinforcing Commitment to Secure and Sustainable IT Asset Disposition
Atlanta, GA., January 28, 2025 – Inteleca has achieved R2v3 certification, the globally recognized standard for responsible electronics reuse and recycling. The R2v3 Standard, developed by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) and certified through an independent third-party audit, recognizes Inteleca as a trusted IT asset disposition (ITAD) provider committed to data security, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance.
The R2v3 certification represents the latest and most stringent framework for handling retired IT assets. It ensures that Inteleca’s processes align with global regulatory requirements, including environmental, health, and safety best practices.
“We have long operated under R2v3 standards,” said Mark Vaughan, VP of ITAD at Inteleca. “Achieving this certification formally recognizes our commitment to the highest levels of data security, compliance, and a fully transparent chain of custody. Inteleca’s in-house ITAD team follows strict protocols for data sanitization, asset tracking, and downstream vendor management, all backed by our zero-landfill policy. Our clients can continue to trust that we not only exceed industry standards but also deliver exceptional service throughout the entire ITAD process.”
With over 1,000 certified facilities across 40+ countries, R2v3 sets the industry benchmark for responsible IT asset disposition, prioritizing reuse before recycling, safeguarding sensitive data, and ensuring full transparency at every stage. As an R2v3-certified provider with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications, Inteleca upholds these rigorous standards, giving clients confidence that their retired IT assets are handled with the highest level of integrity and compliance.
“For us, R2v3 certification isn’t just a box to check—it’s proof of what we’ve been doing all along,” said Matt Edwards, COO of Inteleca. “Data security, sustainability, and, most importantly, a partnership built on trust have always been at the core of our ITAD process. This certification validates the high standards we’ve upheld from the start. We help businesses Make the Most of IT—securely and sustainably. We’re incredibly excited about this milestone and the opportunities it brings.”
What is R2v3 Certification?
R2v3 is the latest version of the Responsible Recycling (R2) Standard. It is a globally recognized certification for ITAD providers who manage retired IT assets in an environmentally responsible, secure, and compliant way.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) first launched R2:2008 as a voluntary standard for environmental protection, worker safety, and e-waste management. In 2013, SERI introduced R2:2013 standards with stricter data security, clearer reuse guidelines, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) practices.
R2v3 is the latest standard that expands data security requirements for proper IT asset disposition. It also includes Specialty Process Requirements for different operations such as refurbishment, recycling, and component harvesting.
Key Aspects of Inteleca’s R2v3 Certification
Here are important aspects of Intelca’s R2v3 certification:
- Secure data erasure: Inteleca securely wipes out data using Blancco software for complete data sanitization and compliance with NIST 800-88 & DoD 5220.22-M (data erasure standards).
- Promoting reuse: Our team of experts prioritizes reuse by thoroughly assessing, refurbishing, and reselling IT assets to extend their lifecycle and maximize ROI.
- Compliance with global regulations: We adhere to global regulations and local industry standards such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Full Chain Custody: Our tracking process provides complete transparency with a full chain of custody and asset reporting.
- Sustainable ITAD Practices – Backed by our zero-landfill policy, we prioritize reuse over recycling to reduce e-waste and promote a circular economy.
Why Is R2v3 Important for Companies?
Data security is a growing concern for companies globally, with the average cost of data breaches around $4.88 million in 2024. Improper IT asset disposal leaves data vulnerable to breaches, legal penalties, and compliance violations.
Companies require a full chain of custody during disposal, from data destruction to recycling practices to avoid non-compliance or data vulnerability issues. R2v3 certification ensures that IT assets are handled securely, in an environmentally responsible manner, and in full compliance with industry standards within a certified R2v3 facility.
