Internet privacy in the new age of deregulation When it comes to internet privacy, there are only two schools of thought: the naive approach, thinking that your data is private and secure, and the approach the rest of us take, thinking that it’s a post-apocalyptic wasteland of fear and insecurity. So, with that, how does … Read more

Product Overview

Remove bandwidth bottlenecks from increased video-on-demand (VoD), IPTV, point-to-point video, Internet video, and cloud services traffic with the Cisco® ASR 9000 Series 2-Port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Line Cards.

These powerful line cards deliver an industry-leading two 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports to any slot of a Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router. Large 10 Gigabit Ethernet link aggregation bundles can now be replaced by a single 100 Gigabit Ethernet port to simplify network designs.

These line cards deliver economical, scalable, highly available, line-rate Ethernet and IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) edge services. Both Cisco ASR 9000 Series line cards and Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers are designed to provide the fundamental infrastructure for scalable Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS networks, to promote profitable business, residential, and mobile services.

The ASR 9000 Series routers are the cornerstone of modern edge and carrier Ethernet networks. They offer high platform density, low power consumption, and virtualization capabilities. The ASR 9000 helps carriers monetize new, profitable services and optimize network performance and efficiency. The ASR 9000 Series runs on IOS XR, the operating system for Cloud-scale networking.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series 2-Port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Line Cards are available in Service Edge Optimized and Packet Transport Optimized variants.

  • Service Edge Optimized line cards are designed for customer deployments requiring enhanced quality of service (QoS).
  • Packet Transport Optimized line cards are designed for network deployments where basic QoS is required.

Different line card types may be mixed within the same system.

Who would benefit from this product

This product is the perfect solution for expanding server rooms and scientific or academic compute farms.

Technical Features

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series 2-Port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Line Cards are fully compatible with all Cisco ASR 9000 Series chassis, route switch processors (RSPs), and line cards. No hardware upgrade to the chassis or cooling system is required. Total bandwidth is dependent on the number and type of RSPs installed. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series 2-Port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Line Cards are also fully compatible with the 22-slot Cisco ASR 9922 chassis.

Each line card provides simultaneous support for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 services and features, helping operators qualify and stock a single line card that can be deployed in any combination of Layer 2 and Layer 3 applications, thereby reducing capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenses (OpEx), as well as reducing the time required to develop and deploy new services. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series 2-Port 100 Gigabit Ethernet line cards provide significant for Layer 2 and Layer 3 service density and scale, allowing operators to offer predictable, managed transport services while optimizing the use of network assets.

The line cards, with their synchronization circuitry and dedicated backplane timing traces for accessing the RSP’s Stratum-3 subsystem, provide standards-based line-interface functions for delivering and deriving transport-class network timing, allowing support of network-synchronized services and applications such as mobile backhaul and time-division multiplexing (TDM) migration. Coupled with the proper RSP, the line cards can also be used for applications requiring IEEE 1588v2 synchronization services.

Recognizing that real-time media dominate next‑generation services, Cisco has integrated media-monitoring technology into the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Ethernet line cards. This multimedia technology allows real-time monitoring and statistics collection of real-time video and voice flows, facilitating proactive maintenance and management of today’s comprehensive media services.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series can extend 100 Gigabit Ethernet transport over an IP over dense wave-division multiplexing (IPoDWDM) network when used with the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP). Distances of up to 2000 km can be achieved while using the optical protection capabilities of the DWDM network.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers:

  • Delivers a comprehensive feature-set and brings scalable simplicity to the edge; offering pay-as-you-grow options, carrier-class reliability, and streamlined service provisioning
  • Provide a reliable foundation for your network, delivering a converged, resilient, and scalable transport for your consumer, business, wholesale, and mobile services
  • Run on the IOS XR operating system, the software foundation for delivering the programmability, agility, and innovation of Cloud-scale networks

Product Overview

The Cisco NCS 2000 100-Gbps Multirate Muxponder module for the Cisco NCS2000 and 15454-M Series. It multiplexes 2x10G and 2x40G or 1x100G into a single 100-Gbps OTN payload, and it can interface with 100-Gbps or 200-Gbps DWDM line cards for transport across a DWDM infrastructure.

Who would benefit from this product

Not only is this product the perfect solution for Large Content Providers, MAN/WAN operators, and Data Centers, but it can also be utilized by anyone with a transport network.

Technical Features

The line card features two SFP+ ports, two QSFP+ ports, and one port supporting the Cisco CPAK pluggable transceiver. The card can aggregate multiple 10-Gbps and 40-Gbps clients, or a single 100-Gbps client, into an ODU-4 container, for transmission across the chassis backplane to a paired DWDM trunk card.

The Cisco NCS 2000 100-Gbps Multirate Muxponder can optionally encrypt the 100-Gbps payload, as well as apply card-to-card and payload authentication to ensure data security and  integrity. Encryption and card-card authentication does require an additional license.

The card reduces wasted capacity by requiring fewer wavelengths for multiple aggregations. 10G, 40G, or 100G can all be used.

The card has multiple operational modes:

  1. 200-Gbps Muxponder Client – One or two line cards can be paired with the NCS2K-200G-CK Line Card to efficiently multiplex 10- and 40-Gbps signals or one 100-Gbps signal into a 200-Gbps coherent DWDM interface.
  2. 100-Gbps Muxponder Client – The line card can be paired with the NCS2K-200G-CK Line Card with SD-FEC or the NCS2K-100G-CK Line Card to efficiently multiplex 10- and 40-Gbps signals into a 100-Gbps coherent DWDM interface.
  3. 100-Gbps Transponder Client – The line card can be paired with another Line Card NCS2K-200G-CK with SD-FEC or the Line Card to transport 100-Gbps signals over a coherent DWDM interface.
  4. Standalone Muxponder – The line card can operate in a standalone mode in which 10- and 40-Gbps client signals are aggregated into an OTU-4 utilizing the CPAK client interface. This mode could be used to transport the output of the Cisco NCS 2000 100-Gbps Multirate Muxponder over dark fiber or a third-party DWDM system.
  5. Back-to-Back 100-Gbps Encryptor – By pairing two line cards “back to back” across the chassis backplane, a 100 Gigabit Ethernet client can be encapsulated into an ODU-4, encrypted, transmitted across the chassis backplane, and retransmitted as an OTU-4 using a Cisco CPAK on the paired line card.
